July is here, and with it comes a global movement close to our hearts – Plastic Free July! This annual initiative inspires over 100 million people in 190 countries to join the fight against plastic pollution by promoting education, engagement, and community action. At OCEANR, we are embracing this challenge, as we believe that even the smallest changes in our daily habits can lead to monumental positive impacts for our communities and our planet.
The staggering amount of plastic entering our oceans and landfills each year poses a severe threat to marine life, ecosystems, and even human health through microplastics. But the good news is, we all have a role to play in turning the tide. As of 2025, OCEANR has saved more than 600 garments from entering landfill through reusing and recycling fabric cut offs.
Plastic Free July is a personal commitment that you can undertake in your own life, whether it be at home, in school, or in work. Simply challenge yourself to consciously use less plastic by taking a canvas tote bag to the supermarket instead of buying a plastic one, or using a metal water bottle instead of buying a new plastic bottle of water. Your challenge can be as small or as big as you like — either way, you are making a difference to our planet.
Founded in 2011, Plastic Free July has quickly become a global social movement that is turning the tide on plastic waste, one choice at a time. We understand that fashion is one of the highest polluting industries through plastic pollution entering our oceans. At OCEANR, we are proud of the fact that our fabrics are created from recycled materials, such as in our rash guards, contributing to the equivalent of over 1.5 million plastic bottles being reclaimed from the sea.

OCEANR is choosing to embrace Plastic Free July this year as it resonates with our own eco-conscious messaging in that small decisions add up to make a large difference. We have applied this attitude across our own business operations. We might not be able to single-handedly save our oceans but the planet-friendly choices that we make across our production line, such as upcycling cut off fabric into tote bags, contributes to a wider sustainability movement in our community.
Central to OCEANR’s mission is how serious we are about removing plastic from our oceans. We have committed to funnelling a portion of each piece of clothing purchased from OCEANR towards our goal to remove 250,000kg of ocean waste by 2030. We understand that the fashion industry contributes significantly to plastic pollution, and that’s why we are so proud to be part of the solution.
In the same vein, we actively work to expand our impact by partnering with NGOs across the globe that are restoring our ecosystems, such as planting mangroves with SeaTrees and removing plastic from rivers in Indonesia with Plastic Fischer. Through our work with these groups, we plant more than 3,000 mangroves annually, and we have committed to removing 30,000 kg of plastic waste from our planet’s rivers by December 2025.
