As a Certified B Corporation, OCEANR is committed to transparency across our supply chain, from production to the final product. That’s why we are proud to embrace the sustainable future of the clothing industry with the European Union’s Digital Product Passport. At OCEANR, we are serious about transparency and the importance of empowering conscious consumerism. We are proud to say that we are compliant with the EU’s Digital Product Passport.
What is the Digital Product Passport?
Essentially, the Digital Product Passport (DPP) is a comprehensive digital identity and history for every piece of clothing that you own. It’s a secure, scannable, and easily accessible record of a product’s entire lifecycle, from its raw materials to its end-of-life options. Think of the DPP as a digital booklet that holds all of the information you could possibly need about your clothing.
Thanks to our partnership with BCome and our existing product lifecycle tracking options, OCEANR has already made waves of progress in the area of ethical product tracking.
Why does the Digital Product Passport matter?
There are several reasons why OCEANR welcomes the introduction of mandatory product lifecycle tracking across the EU.
1. Transparency
Using a QR code or a similar digital feature, consumers will instantly gain access to a range of essential product information, from materials to environmental impact, care instructions, and end of life options. The DPP ensures that there is accountability throughout the entire lifecycle of a piece of clothing.
2. Circular Economy
The DPP promotes knowledge of and engagement with circularity through providing consumers with their reuse, repair, and recycling options. This encourages re-use of resources and prevents clothing from ending up in landfills.
3. Accountability
As the DPP provides concrete and verifiable data about their products, it also combats greenwashing claims. Consumers can trust brands who use the DPP as the sustainability claims being made about their clothing products are backed up with instant digital proof.
4. Empowerment
Thanks to the DPP, consumers are empowered to participate in conscious consumption, as they are able to compare the impact and background of each piece of clothing before they make a purchase.
How does the DPP work?
While each company might implement their DPP differently, OCEANR has already rolled out product lifecycle tracking through QR codes printed directly onto our materials.
A quick scan from your smartphone camera will lead you to the DPP for your individual product, whether it be a recycled polyester rash guard or a GOTS-certified organic cotton tee. Each product will have its own unique webpage containing all of the DPP information.
Our Commitment to the DPP
At OCEANR, we are actively working towards integrating the Digital Product Passport across our range of products. We believe this innovation is essential for building a truly sustainable and transparent clothing industry. We are committed to providing our brand customers with the most accurate and comprehensive information possible, empowering them to join us on the journey towards a more responsible future for fashion, and a healthier future for the planet.
