Committed To sustainability

At OCEANR, sustainability is an ongoing commitment to making more considered choices across our business. From the people involved in creating our products to the materials we select and the environmental initiatives we support, we focus on the areas where we can take measurable action and communicate our progress transparently.

Our approach is built around three interconnected pillars: People, Product and Planet.

MADE WITH RESPECT

We believe responsible business begins with respect for the people behind our products, the people within our company, our suppliers, partners, customers and the communities connected to our work.

Our core products are designed and primarily manufactured within the European Union. This enables closer collaboration with our principal production partner and places our core manufacturing within an established framework of EU employment, health and safety, and worker-protection legislation. When we secure materials, products or services outside the EU we carry out enhanced analysis and evaluation prior to selection and then on an ongoing basis.

As a business working with external partners, we set clear expectations for responsible labour and ethical practices through our Supplier Code of Conduct. All suppliers are required to review and confirm their commitment to these standards annually, supporting consistent expectations and ongoing oversight across our supply chain.

PRODUCT

HIGH QUALITY PRODUCTS WITH TRACEABILITY & PRODUCT IMPACT

Our sustainability ambition is to create thoughtfully designed apparel using verified recycled and organic materials, supported by transparent impact information and choices intended to extend product life and reduce unnecessary waste.

Across our core range, we prioritise certified recycled and organic materials and seek to reduce the use of virgin materials where suitable certified alternatives meet the product’s performance requirements.

  • Certified recycled polyester
  • Certified organic cotton

To better understand and communicate the impact of our products, our core range includes products assessed using BCome’s lifecycle assessment methodology.

Each assessment provides product-level traceability insights and measures cradle-to-gate environmental indicators, including water scarcity, global warming, eutrophication and the use of natural resources. Where available, results are also presented through relatable equivalences and comparisons with the industry standard used by BCome.

By making this information accessible, we aim to provide greater transparency about where our products come from and the environmental impact associated with their production.

Our core collection is thoughtfully designed to remain relevant over time. By maintaining a focused range of functional products rather than changing styles each season, we enable customers to reorder consistently and develop coordinated collections with long-term use in mind.

We also recommend customisation techniques according to each product’s purpose and intended use, with a focus on quality, performance and lasting design.

In order to avoid taking wasteful stock positions (a common and unfortunate practice in our sector) we design and make everything to order. This ensures we only make products that people really want and need, reducing waste associated with unused stock.

This practice also reduces our raw material stock positions, minimising waste associated with unused fabrics.

The sublimation production process used to apply designs to our polyester garments can also contribute to reducing material waste. It allows us to procure white, non-dyed fabric for a significant portion of our product range, rather than holding multiple pre-dyed fabrics. This white base fabric can be used across different designs, helping reduce the risk of unused, colour-specific fabric stock.

Digital mock-ups and pre-production approvals help reduce unnecessary samples, while industrially compostable garment bags and reduced packaging help us minimise avoidable packaging waste wherever possible. We will strive to use minimum packaging, tagging and maximise the use of recycled packaging materials for our goods.

ENVIRONMENTAL & COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS

We believe environmental and community action is strengthened through collaboration. We are committed to supporting carefully selected organisations whose work aligns with our values, from protecting oceans and restoring ecosystems to strengthening communities.

Through these partnerships, we aim to support established organisations and communicate the outcomes of their work, extending our commitment to environmental and community initiatives beyond the products we create.

OUR JOURNEY SO FAR

Since 2018, OCEANR has supported a range of organisations working across ocean-plastic recovery, marine conservation, ecosystem restoration and environmental education. Through partnerships with organisations including Enaleia, Plastic Fischer, Tengah Island Conservation, UOCEAN 2050 and Plant-for-the-Planet, we have contributed to projects ranging from plastic removal and interception to mangrove and forest restoration, wildlife protection and educational initiatives.

These collaborations have shaped our approach and continue to inform how we select and support future partners.
