Fast fashion is out, and the planet couldn’t be happier about it.
At OCEANR, we believe it’s time to slow things down, make clothes that last, and prove that looking good doesn’t have to come at the cost of the planet or the people who make them. Here’s how we’re working towards making “slow” the new fashion industry standard.
We have got decades of combined experience under our belts through our teams across our Irish headquarters and our Latvian production facility. (Click here to take a tour of our manufacturing floor.) We are not just here to make clothes — we are here to make clothes in an ethical way that is sustainable long-term.
We are also proud to be a Certified B Corporation — we think of it as our gold star for doing business ethically. It’s proof that we care about our people and the planet more than profits. (Click here to view our B Corp scoring.) Our supply chain is almost entirely Europe-based, so fair labour laws aren’t just an afterthought, they are a given.
Our materials make a difference too as they are mostly recycled polyester or organic cotton. Our production is typically made-to-order, so nothing is created unless it has a home to go to. Fabric waste, too, is kept to a minimum.
We often use sublimation printing, as it is a process that uses zero water and no chemical dyes. It’s better for the planet, and better for you.
As far as we are concerned, looking good should feel good too, meaning that clothing shouldn’t come at the expense of the planet or the people who make it. (Click here to read about how our people inform our core values and approach to doing business.)
Why Producing Slowly is Trendy.
Slow fashion is exactly what it sounds like — fashion… made slowly. In a world where you can click “buy now” and get a parcel from another country on your doorstep tomorrow, slow isn’t exactly the popular choice, but it’s the right one.
But here’s the thing: you can have fast, or you can have quality. You can’t truly have both. Speed often means someone, somewhere along the supply chain, is paying the price, whether it’s long hours for unfair pay or cutting corners on materials.
When you order from OCEANR, your package will take a little longer to arrive than something from a big-box retailer. But here’s what you will get with that slightly longer wait time: peace of mind that no one was exploited, the knowledge that your clothing is durable, and that it was created without harming the environment.
In fast fashion factories, waste piles up, cheap are fabrics tossed aside, excess energy is burned, and chemical dyes pollute waterways. We said “no thanks” to all of that, as we truly believe that we can do and be better, and you can too.
Sublimation printing is a process that uses zero water and no chemical dyes. It’s better for the planet, better for the people, and better for you. (Click here to read more about sublimation, or click read to read more about our other production techniques.)
So yes, slow fashion takes a little longer. But isn’t it worth the wait when you know that your clothes come with a conscience? Contact us and start your sustainability story today.
